Meet a Few of Gateway's Successes

Ruth has been receiving services from Gateway Employment off and on for over ten years! Ruth started working at Gateway’s Good Morning Coffee Cart in 2008. At that time she was covering the lunch shift at the Human Services Center, in Norristown. In 2009 she joined the staff of Gold Chef, the management company that ran the cafeteria in the human services Center, as a server and cashier.   During her year with Gold Chef, Ruth became much more confident with her customer services skills and her skills to run the cash register improved greatly. Ruth has recently returned to the lunch shift of the Good Morning Coffee Cart, and is enjoying seeing all of the familiar faces… serving customers with a smile, while simultaneously working with her job coach on improving her math and money skills.   Ruth plans on obtaining another part- time position as well to utilize her skills.

Karen is approaching her 20th anniversary of employment with the Gwynedd Square Nursing Center. During her time there, Karen has helped in many different areas of dining service, from helping as a server in the dining room and assisting with food prep, to her current role as a dishwasher.

Karen is very friendly and takes pride in her work. Karen is also justly proud of   the time she has put into her lengthy employment. Karen’s supervisor describes her as a dependable and hard worker, who is sometimes easily distracted while working. Karen receives monthly follow-up visits from her job coach, with reminders to help her stay on task.  We look forward to celebrating her 20 years of employment with Karen and her co-workers this Spring

Rob is a shining example of Gateway Employment’s successful people! Referred to Gateway in 1987,   Robbie has worked for Petco, in Ardmore PA, for 17 years. This is quite an accomplishment for anyone in today’s ever-changing world of retail.   Robbie began as a stock associate, stocking pet food and supplies on the store shelves, and assisting customers as needed.    Due to the strain this position put on his knees over the years, his position primary responsibilities have shifted to store maintenance. In his current role, Robbie sweeps and mops the shop  floors, cleans the bathrooms and break room, and helps in any other areas as needed.   Robbie said that one of the managers gave him the title “commander of the store” for all of his hard work and experience in different areas of the store.

Rob lives with his mother, and enjoys playing video games, trying his hand at preparing a meal on occasion, and is currently taking guitar lessons.

Jim gained employment at Villanova University in August of 2004. He works at the Exchange, a bustling eatery in Bartley Hall, keeping the dining area neat and organized. His duties include wiping down tables and chairs, restocking condiments stations, wiping down countertops and trash removal.   Working for the University has the unique bonus of long winter and spring breaks, and summers off. Jim’s job coach helps Jim return to his work routine after these breaks.
